Scenically located at the southern end of Puget Sound, Pierce County is the second most populous county in the state of Washington. The local county seat is Tacoma, a thriving mid-sized coastal city, and home to one of the busiest container shipping ports in North America. As the historic western terminus of the Northern Pacific Railroad, Tacoma is home to a number of long-established neighborhoods, and a character downtown where condos are in high demand. Tacoma's success in recent years can be felt throughout Pierce county, as a strong economy, beautiful natural setting, and a mix of towns and cities have attracted an influx of new residents and fueled a real estate boom.

One of Pierce County's main attractions is Mount Rainier National Park, a stunning alpine greenbelt covering 235,625 acres, and visited by millions annually. The park's centerpiece is Mount Rainier, a 14,410 foot strata volcano rising dramatically from the surrounding landscape into a rounded, year round snow peak.
